Toltrele Prutului (or Stâncile Prutului) is a chain of limestone formations of reef type, spread over a distance of about 200 km along the Middle Prut, in the Republic of Moldova. They start near Criva, close to the northern border of the country and continue to Cobani, 200 km further south. Some of them are declared monuments of nature and are protected by law. These limestone reef chains are made up of fossils of corals, mollusks, shells, calcareous algae and other marine organisms that inhabited the tropical Tortonian and Sarmatic seas 10-20 million years ago.
